2011 Election Results
Tuesday's election was a good day for us. By the numbers: - In Maine, we brought in 9,000 signatures to save same-day voter registration and handed out 36,000 voter guides.
- The San Francisco League distributed 60,000 copies of their thirteenth voter guide.
- In Ohio, we turned out 1,900 voters to help defeat Issue #2 and protect workers' rights.

The People's Veto Begins in Maine
During the last legislative session, the Maine legislature passed a bill that ended same-day voter registration in the state. Since then, the Maine League actively started a grassroots campaign with a coalition of groups to repeal the irresponsible bill. SF Chronicle Features the League
Recently, the San Francisco Chronicle featured the League's Executive Director, Robert "Biko" Baker. In an exclusive interview, Baker discussed the role of Twitter in light of Rep. Anthony Weiner's scandal. SFGate wrote: "'People used to talk about the digital divide, and now that divide is on content - Twitter is becoming the new TV,'... 'But elected officials have to think seriously,' he said, about how to take the 140 characters (or a photo) allowed on the Twitter feed and make it a positive."
Maine Action Alert: Protect Public Unions
From the FB event: "Maine legislators need to know union busting is not a 'good jobs agenda' and that they have to stop this radical, toxic, anti-democratic and viscous ongoing series of attacks on Mainers." There's a public hearing next Thursday, June 2nd on LD 309, Maine's public union busting bill, and we need all hands on deck.

During the month of May, The League is competing in Pepsi's Refresh Everything contest to bring in $50,000 so young Americans know about new voter ID requirements and are able to vote next year. Join LYVEF in Holding BP Accountable
BP promised $20 billion to victims of the Gulf Coast oil spill. One year later, they have yet to pay the majority of victims who lost their livelihoods in the environmental disaster. Our sister organization, LYVEF, put together an action to tell BP executives to stop denying legitimate claims.
BP wants us all to go away. Tell them that first, they have to pay!

Help Liberate NPR!
The artists at the League have been busy lately, and their latest short takes on the battle to defund NPR that is taking place right now in Washington. Yesterday, the House voted to cut NPR's funding, with Rep. Rich Nugent of Florida justifying their actions: "we are not trying to harm NPR; we're actually trying to liberate them from federal tax dollars."

Systems & Communications Associate
The League's Online Department is currently seeking a National Systems and Communications Associate to join our team of digital activists.
