OnFriday, April 3, more than 45 community organizations from around Maine are hosting a
public Town Hall Meeting on the Economy, Health Care, War and the Environment. The event will be held inside Hannaford Hall at USM in Portland and will run from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
Maine’s Congressional delegation, Governor Baldacci, State Legislative leaders, and leaders of the Maine Municipal Association have been invited to attend. Already several key elected officials (Chellie Pingree, Hannah Pingree, Libby Mitchell) have indicated their intention to be there. Former State Sen. Michael Brennan and other local leaders will moderate the event.
The purpose of the April 3 Town Hall meeting is to give the public an opportunity to speak to our elected officials about the key issues that concern them today. Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, globally and locally, we are beginning to experience the looming catastrophic impacts to our health and ecosystems from an environment in climate crisis. Our state is in fiscal crisis as we are engaged in two wars costing taxpayers over $12 billion per month.
This is the moment to begin mobilizing the public so that ‘we the people’ can give vision and support to our elected officials so they can make transformative change possible.
